Data visualisation producers – where are they now?

The ONS Digital Content team is currently recruiting data visualisation producers. You can view the adverts for the senior data visualisation producer and data visualisation producer roles. So, in a blatant attempt to promote these vacancies, I reached out to two previous members of the Data Visualisation team to see what they are up to.

What job are you doing now?
I currently work as a data visualisation developer supporting the Human Resources analytics of a major bank.

What was the best thing about the ONS?
The team! But also learning how to collaborate with different departments on projects.

What piece of work are you most proud of?
I’m really proud of the risk of automation project where we used a chatbot to deliver data insights to the audience. It was the first time we built something totally different like this.

What is something you learnt at the ONS and still use?
I developed my coding skills, and also learnt new ones, especially regarding developing maps. Also, the position helped me with managing projects, thinking how a team works well and what structure a team needs. This was a huge help in my job as we were just creating a new Data Visualisation team in the organisation.

Laura Harding: data visualisation producer from September 2017 to February 2019

What job are you doing now?
I’m a senior data visualisation consultant at Aiimi.

What was the best thing about the ONS?
The team, obviously!

What piece of work are you most proud of?
It was a team effort, but the way we refined and used our maps. We found a way to show so much data in a really clear and understandable way.

What is something you learnt at the ONS and still use?
First and foremost, how to be a grownup. I refined my coding and visualisation skills, but the biggest thing I learnt was how to actually work with stakeholders. It’s a different kind of relationship to working with close colleagues, and there’s a bit of an art to it.

Did I mention we are recruiting for senior data visualisation producers and data visualisation producers? 😁
